The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Masonic Temple Renovation

The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge (“Colored Masonic Temple”) is a century-old historic building in downtown Birmingham undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to create a state-of-the-art, sustainable, or “green” commercial office, restaurant, and event facility.

The Masonic Temple is a major influential African American building in Birmingham, holding national significance for its role in African American Masonic history, its notable architecture and architect, and its contribution to the Civil Rights Movement. It is one of the first high-rise buildings in downtown Birmingham, wholly funded, designed, and constructed by African Americans. Birmingham's Masonic Temple plays a vital role in setting the stage for economic prosperity and catalytic development within the Civil Rights National Monument District.
